Information for New Students

At The MFG we strive to make induction arrangements as thorough, reassuring and informative as possible for both students and parents

Break and Lunchtime

Every year group has their own ‘break time’. There are two eating areas and more than enough seats for each year group.

Each year group have their lunch at different times.  There are social areas for students to use and they can also access the Learning Resource Centre.

The Planner

All students are given a planner when they start in September and they can use this to familiarise themselves with the Academy rules and expectations.   The planner enables students to organise themselves with respect to home learning and extra-curricular activities and is designed to help:

  • Plan work;
  • Manage time;
  • Record Creating Futures data;
  • Set targets for improvement;
  • Communication between staff and parents/carers

Personal Development

We expect a very high standard of self-discipline and behaviour from all our students at all times.  We hope that by encouraging your child to adopt a caring and responsibly attitude at the Academy they will behave sociably at all other times in their life too. To maximise the learning for all students we have a robust Personal Development Policy, which is outlined below and is in more detail in the student planner.

Personal Development is an integral part of the Academy ethos.  It is a system which encompasses all aspects of student conduct throughout the Academy; in the classroom, around the Academy and towards the individual.  At its heart is the philosophy that all students and staff in the Academy are important and valued individuals and deserve to be treated with respect.  All aspects of a student’s behaviour affects their learning and that of those around them.  Students learn best when they are happy and confident and the system is in place to help achieve this; no one has the right to interrupt others’ learning.  There is a significant reward system , but also a range of sanctions to help students learn to avoid antisocial behaviour.  A very important aspect of our system is that all sanctions are issued via the system based on a few very simple rules to which we ask the students to adhere.

Bullying is completely different to friends falling out. At The MFG we have a zero tolerance to bullying and if you are concerned your child is being picked on or intimidated you must contact the Academy immediately and it will be dealt with swiftly. We advise that parents/carers monitor the use of social media by their child in order to minimise incidences of cyber bullying

It is vitally important that your child attends the Academy every day and that they aim to have 100% attendance.

If your child is absent from the Academy please phone before 10am to confirm this on 01924 483687 (absence line).  Failing this, the Academy will contact you to seek an explanation.  If it is found that your child has set off from home but has not arrived at the Academy you will be encouraged to contact the police.
