BAFTA Nominated Television Screen Writer spends the day with The MFG Students
On Wednesday 13 September, we were delighted to host a visit by Lisa Holdsworth.
Lisa spoke with 40 students who had expressed an interest in careers in writing in a Spotlight Session about her journey from PA to BAFTA-nominated television writer. She talked about how she secured her first commission writing on ITV's Fat Friends, going on to write for New Tricks, Waterloo Road, Emmerdale, Robin Hood and currently Ackley Bridge to name but a few.
She then supported a drama lesson for Year 11 students who are currently devising their own plays (based around the stimulus “Missing People”) and she helped them by giving tips and strategies on creating dialogue.
Finally, Lisa spent the afternoon working with English teacher, Miss Fisher and a group of Year 13 A Level Language students where she shared some fantastic stories and helped them with tips on how to improve their writing, ideas on putting together a ‘pitch’ for a Hollyoaks episode and she also had some really good advice for students who were interested in careers in the television industry. The students said they had a brilliant afternoon.
