KS3 PE

Purpose of study

At The MFG we plan our curriculum around the needs of the students, inspiring them to become healthy young adults with a passion for at least one sport they will continue to take part in once they graduate. We take into account as many of the broad and diverse range of preferences for sport, providing opportunities to compete and perform for audiences, thus building character and embedding the Academy values of fairness and respect.

Aims

Our curriculum aims to ensure that all students:

  • develop competence to excel;
  • develop confidence to reflect and review;
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time;
  • engage in competitive sports and performance related activities;
  • develop a passion to lead healthy, active lives whilst at school and in later life.

Attainment targets

By the end of each Key Stage, students are expected to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study.

Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 starts with base-lining activities that provide the students with an attainment level on entry which is then used to set realistic targets for the end of the Key Stage. Our curriculum design and extra-curricular opportunities inspire students to develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities helping them build on and embed the physical development and skills learned in Key Stages 1 and 2. They become more competent, confident and expert in their techniques, applying them across different sports and physical activities in addition to understanding what makes a performance effective and how to apply these principles to their own and others’ work.

Extra-curricular is a real strength at The MFG with students able to take part in a wide variety of activities such as football, rugby, hockey and netball in addition to cricket, basketball, rounders and dance. We enjoy success in all of these activities, particularly at a National level in football.
