At Key Stage 4 the BTEC First Award in Creative Media Production is taught over two years and consists of four units in total. It is a vocational qualification where students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the digital media industry by applying learning and skills in a work related context.
Students take responsibility for their own learning and develop skills that are essential to the modern workplace. These skills includes: team working; working from a prescribed brief; working to deadlines; presenting information effectively and accurately and completing administrating tasks and processes.
The course aims to inspire students to consider a career in digital media sectors. It gives them a broad knowledge and understanding of a range of creative digital media industries in which they can further develop production skills in these areas. It gives students the potential opportunity to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the creative digital media sectors. These include photographer, sound recordist and editorial assistant.
The qualification is built on two core units that form the fundamental knowledge and understanding of Creative Digital Media Production principles. In addition, students will need to undertake two optional units which are designed to broaden understanding of specific creative media sectors. These production units are designed to provide opportunities to acquire some specific practical skills, which are considered to be fundamental building blocks for future competence in the work place. All units are equally weighted.
External assessment is in the form of a 1 hour examination, which will explore the different digital media sectors, different types of audiences and how audiences can engage with each sector.
Course will be assessed in the following ways:
Unit 1: Digital Media Sectors (external exam).
Unit 2: Planning and Pitching a Digital Media Product (coursework).
Unit 3: Moving Image Production (coursework).
Unit 5 Digital Publishing Production (coursework).
