Applications Process for Year 7 (this has now closed)
Kirklees Local Authority manages the Co-ordinated Admissions process for The Mirfield Free Grammar (The MFG) and all secondary schools. From 1 September, parents wishing to apply for a place at The MFG for their child must apply online at kirklees.gov.uk/admissions and click 'Apply online'. You will be taken to the Kirklees Parent Portal. If it is your first visit, click on 'create an account'. Enter your details and follow the link to verify your account. Login and add your child's details and preferred schools. Check and submit your application. In order to be considered for a place at The MFG, parents MUST name the Academy as one of their preferences. Kirklees Local Authority compiles lists of all parents who have recorded The MFG as one of their three preferences. Kirklees Local Authority sends a list of all applicants to The Mirfield Free Grammar Multi-Academy Trust. Applications are put into priority order in accordance with the oversubscription criteria listed below.
- a) looked after children and previously looked after children(please see note below)
- b) children who have an older brother or sister attending main school from the same address at the date of admission (the younger sibling rule)
- c) children who live in the Academy’s Priority Admission Area
- d) children who live outside the Academy’s Priority Admission Area
Kirklees Local Authority sends out offers of places on behalf of The Mirfield Free Grammar Multi-Academy Trust. Offers of a school place are sent by email on National Offer Day (usually 1 March) to the email address you have used. You will also be able to see your offer of a school place by logging into your Kirklees Parent Portal account.

Further information on key policies:
Sex Discrimination Act – This is monitored through the staff application process to ensure compliance with the law to ensure elimination of unlawful discrimination and the promotion of equality of opportunity between men and women.
Collective Worship – Each year group has an assembly once a week. This addresses moral, social, religious and cultural issues throughout the year. Throughout all lessons, students are encouraged to reflect on these issues through the curriculum they are following. Students are given personal reflective time during tutorial sessions. The Academy is broadly Christian in nature.
Racial Equality – The MFG values everybody irrespective of religion, race, colour or origin. Employee application procedures ensure equality of opportunity for prospective new staff. All students receive equality in teaching and learning, rewards, discipline and access to extra-curricular activities. Any issues of racism are dealt with in our Behaviour for Learning Policy.
